We caught up with Taylor Townsend less than one year ago. At the time, her ranking sat at No. 237, her ability to translate a sterling junior career to success at the pro level still unproven. Now, with only two Grand Slam main draw appearances under her belt, she’s knocking on the door of the world’s top 100. In addition to stockpiling a host of ranking points in 2014, she’s used her quick wit, huge smile and refreshing honesty to amass an ever-growing fan base.
With her US Open debut just days away, Townsend stopped by the Esurance Rally for a Cause in Times Square where she would go on to raise $8,000 for the V Foundation in a target contest. She also took time to catch us up on her US Open hopes, her “best” New York accent and her coach Zina Garrison’s star turn on NBC’s The Biggest Loser.
