Stan Wawrinka ralled from a break down twice in the third set against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to become the oldest quarterfinalist in Stockholm history.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka made it wins on back-to-back days and reached his first ATP quarterfinal in 15 months in Stockholm, defeating Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to become the oldest quarterfinalist in tournament history.

39-year-old Wawrinka wins back to back matches on tour for the first time since the 2023 US Open, and reaches his 112th career quarterfinal.

217th-ranked Wawrinka will face either Andrey Rublev or Alexandre Muller in the last eight on Friday in Sweden.


After dropping the middle set, Wawrinka was up against it in the decider, down a break twice.

Both times he responded with breaks immediately. He ralled back from 2-0 down, then from 4-2 down, winning five of the final six games to clinch victory in two hours and 12 minutes.
