Reigning Wimbledon champion Alcaraz dispatched Ugo Humbert, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 on the middle Sunday to advance to his second consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinal.

It is the ninth major quarterfinal for Alcaraz, who equaled coach Juan Carlos Ferrero and Manuel Orantes for joint third place on the list for most Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances by a Spanish man behind Rafael Nadal (47 major quarterfinals) and David Ferrer (17 Slam quarterfinals.)

The third-seeded Spaniard has won 11 straight Wimbledon matches and 11 consecutive Grand Slam matches following his run to the Roland Garros championship last month.

At The Championships, Alcaraz will face either 12th-seeded Queen’s Club champion Tommy Paul or 2019 Wimbledon semifinalist Roberto Bautista Agut. for a semifinal spot.

Last Friday, Alcaraz was under duress before rallying before from two-sets to one down, passing a tough test from Frances Tiafoe 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2. It was Alcaraz’s ninth straight five set win as he improved to 12-1 in five-setters.

The third-seeded Alcaraz was in no mood for further fifth set drama today.

The left-handed Humbert raced through the third set, 6-1, to shift pressure on Alcaraz’s shoulders.

Alcaraz unleashed a forehand that helped him score the crucial break for 6-5.

The youngest man to win Grand Slam titles on all three major surfaces, Alcaraz won eight of the last 10 points to become the fifth Spanish man in the Open Era to reach multiple Wimbledon quarterfinals, after Rafael Nadal, Feliciano Lopez, David Ferrer and Ferrero.
