Caroline Garcia ramped up her bid for a title on home soil with a win over Alison Van Uytvanck on Thursday in Lyon.

Faced with an early exit at her hometown tourney, Caroline Garcia roared back and scored an emphatic win.
The Lyonnaise, seeded No.1 at the Open 6eme in Lyon, rallied for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 triumph to set a quarterfinal clash with Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.
In its fourth edition, the tournament has been previously won by Sofia Kenin (2020), Clara Tauson (2021) and Zhang Shuai (2022).
Garcia, who owns 11 career titles, improved to 8-2 on the season with her win. She recently reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open, where she was knocked out by Poland’s Magda Linette.
Elsewhere on Thursday seventh-seeded Danka Kovinic defeated Ana Bondar, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while Russia’s Anastasia Potapova, the No.5 seed, edged Clara Burel, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. In the last night match Paolini slipped by qualifier Erika Andreeva, 6-2, 6-3.
