Czech teen Linda Fruhvirtova continues to impress on the WTA Tour.
The 17-year–old qualified for the US Open and reached the second round just weeks ago, and has climbed to 130 in the WTA rankings this week, from 296 at the start of the season.
She’ll go higher next week, thanks to a run to the finals in Chennai.
Fruhvirtova battled past Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, rallying from a break down in the third to reach the final.
Fruhvirtova will face Poland’s Magda Linette for the title on Sunday. Linette advanced when Great Britain’s Katie Swan retired down 3-0 in the first set.
The Prague-born teen lives and trains in Prague, but also spends time at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy in Nice, France. She is the older sister of Brenda, the 15-year-old who has gone 36-5 at the ITF level this season (and one WTA-level event) to rise to 233 in the WTA rankings.
The sisters are the highest-ranked players that have yet to turn 18 on the WTA Tour.
Fruhvirtova won 77 percent of her first-serve points in the final set, and saved one of two break points in the decider.
From 4-2 down in the third she won the final four games, converting her fourth match point on Podoroska’s tenth double-fault of the evening.
