Timely strikes carried David Goffin to his second Montpellier semifinal in the last three years.
The second-seeded Goffin fought off French favorite Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 7-6(5) to reach the final four.

Goffin, who knocked off then world No. 1 Rafael Nadal at last month's ATP Cup, reached the Montpellier semifinals in 2018 bowing to Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

The Canadian Davis Cup standout held a 6-1, 1-0 lead over Gasquet when the three-time champion retired after 32 minutes due to injury.
Two-time Montpellier champion Gael Monfils thrilled home fans charging into his fifth semifinal in seven appearances at the Open Sud de France with a 6-3, 6-4 sweep of Norbert Gombos.
The top-seeded Monfils moved fluidly and saved five of six break points in a 72-minute victory.
The French wild card, who took the title in 2010 and 2014, will play Filip Krajinovic in Saturday's semifinals.
The seventh-seeded Krajinovic was a 6-2, 7-5 victor over 91st-ranked Frenchman Gregoire Barrere.
