Taylor Townsend entered this year’s US Open with a 1-4 lifetime record at her home Slam. But the net-rushing American has parlayed a mammoth upset of Simona Halep in the second-round into a run to the second week.
Townsend made 106 forays to the net in her second-round encounter with Halep and on Saturday she came in 75 times (winning 47) and served-and-volley 53 times (winning 33) in her 7-5 6-2 triumph over Sorana Cirstea.
The American has made her best Grand Slam performance and will face either Bianca Andreescu or Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round.
