Andy Murray has taken a wild card into Winston-Salem for singles next week, .
Andy Murray’s singles comeback will continue next week in North Carolina. The Scot, who fell to Richard Gasquet in his first singles match since January at this week’s Western and Southern Open, will hope to get a few more matches under his belt.
“What I need now is matches. I want to get myself back on the singles court and keep testing myself. Winston-Salem is a perfect place for me to do that,” said Murray, according to ATPWorldTour.com. “I know from speaking to players who have played there that the site is great... Good facilities for practice, gym. The weather will be good from what I've seen. It's another step for me in the comeback, and we'll see how it goes. Hopefully I can have a good run.”
The three-time major champion also announced that he will not play doubles or mixed doubles at the U.S. Open. "I'm not going to play doubles at the US Open," Murray told BBC Sport. "My goal is to get back playing at the level that I want to on the singles court, and I've decided that I need to focus all my energies on that right now. The US Open, doubles and mixed, can be another couple of weeks that you are slowing things down."
Murray lost in doubles on Friday at the Western and Southern Open in his first match against his brother Jamie in four years. Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski defeated Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez 6-7(5) 7-5 10-4.
