Hometown girl, hometown title.

Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu, native of Bucharest, took down Germany’s Julia Goerges to claim the BRD Bucharest title, 6-3, 7-5.

The 26-year-old claimed her first title of the season, fourth overall and first on clay. She converted 18 of 28 second-serve return points and four of six break points to edge Goerges in 97 minutes.

Begu saved both break points she faced in the opener and broke twice, including in the ninth game to avoid having to serve the set out.

The second set was more complicated, but Begu rallied from a break down and eventually converted championship point when Goerges double-faulted into the net while serving at 5-6, 15-40.

Begu improves to 2-1 lifetime over the 28-year-old German.
