It’s the best day of the tennis year. Wimbledon’s manic Monday. The sun is shining and the grounds are bustling. We go inside the numbers to get you prepped.
More Manic Monday: Kyrgios Hopes to Get Comfortable in Murray's Back Yard
305 -- Number of Grand Slam wins that Roger Federer has earned. If he defeats Steve Johnson on Monday he’ll be tied with Martin Navratilova for the all-time lead in wins at majors.
36 -- The age of Venus Williams, who is the oldest woman to reach the round of 16 at a major since 1994 (Navratilova).
20 -- Number of countries represented in the men’s and women’s singles today. USA takes the lead with six (four women and two men). There are 10 countries represented in the women’s singles and 10 countries represented in the men’s singles.
5 -- Canada’s Milos Raonic is bidding to reach his 5th Grand Slam quarterfinal and take sole possession of first place on the list for major quarterfinals for a Canadian player. He is currently tied with Eugenie Bouchard and Carling Bassett-Seguso.
2006 -- Japan’s Misaki Doi is the first Japanese woman to reach the round of 16 at any major in ten years (Sugiyama, Wimbledon, 2006)
103 -- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is currently tied with Jean Borotra for most Grand Slam wins by a Frenchman. His opponent, Richard Gasquet is fourth on the list with 95 wins at majors.
79-17 -- The combined record of Venus and Serena Williams at this stage of a Grand Slam. The other 14 round of 16 contestants have a combined record of 64-57 at this stage of a major.
82 -- Federer is just two wins behind Jimmy Connors for the all-time Wimbledon match wins lead for men. He’s also one quarterfinal berth away from tying Connors’ record of 14 Wimbledon quarterfinals reached.
6-0 -- Dominika Cibulkova has never lost a round of 16 match at a major.
18 -- Andy Murray will put his perfect 18-0 record against Australians on the line today. The Scot is also 4-0 against Nick Kyrgios, who he’ll face in today’s third match on Centre Court.
2013 -- The last women’s singles defending champion to fall in the round of 16 was Serena Williams, who fell to Sabine Lisicki on Manic Monday in 2013. Williams is seeking her third Wimbledon title defense at SW19 this year, and her seventh title overall.
1 -- Kei Nishikori will bid to become the first Japanese male to complete the set of four Grand Slam quarterfinals reached when he faces Marin Cilic. Kimiko Date-Krumm has achieved the feat on the women’s side previously.
21 -- Age of the youngest player remaining in both the men’s and women’s singles draw: Madison Keys and Nick Kyrgios.
7 -- Players bidding to reach their first Grand Slam quarterfinal today. They are Sam Querrey, Nicolas Mahut, Lucas Pouille, Jiri Vesely, Steve Johnson, Misaki Doi and Elena Vesnina.
96 -- The ranking of the lowest-ranked singles player in action on Monday, Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova. 64th-ranked Jiri Vesely is the lowest-ranked player on the men’s side. Only three players outside the Top 50 have made the round of 16—France’s Nicolas Mahut is the third.
2 -- Players that have a chance to claim the No1 ranking from Serena Williams after Wimbledon. Agnieszka Radwanska can claim the No.1 ranking by winning Wimbledon. Angelique Kerber would need to win the title and have Serena Williams not reach the semifinals. Williams has held the top spot six different times and for a total of 300 weeks. Her streak is currently at 177 weeks, just nine weeks short of the all-time record for consecutive week at No.1 on the women’s side (186, Navratilova).
