Andreescu Closes Curtain on 2020 Season

Bianca Andreescu is pulling the plug on the 2020 season to rest and recharge for 2021.

Andreescu joins world No. 1 and reigning Roland Garros champion Ashleigh Barty in withdrawing from Paris and ending her 2020 campaign.

The 2019 US Open champion, who has not played a match since suffering a knee injury at the WTA Finals last October, has also been coping with a foot injury.

The seventh-ranked Canadian announced she's closing the curtain on 2020 in a statement she posted on Twitter.

"I have come to the difficult decision to skip the clay court swing this year," Andreescu posted. "I will be taking the remainder of the season off to focus on my health and training.

"As hard as it was to come to this conclusion, I have so much to look forward to in 2021, including the Olympics; I want to use this time to focus on my game so I can come back stronger and better than ever."
