Federer: Loudest Crowd Ever

Roger Federer once cited applause as his favorite sound.

Today, the former Basel ball boy evoked one of loudest roars of his career in a triumphant Laver Cup homecoming in Geneva.

Most of the more than 17,000 fans at the Palexpo were chanting Federer's name and even erupted in the wave during the 20-time Grand Slam champion's 6-7 (5), 7-5, 10-7 comeback conquest of Nick Kyrgios.

Afterward, Federer said the rocking fan support matched the loudest crowd he's ever experienced matching the scary loud sound he felt during an exhibition in Bogotá, Colombia.

"Today was extremely loud. I don't recall that on the tour ever being almost this loud," Federer said afterward. "I think it helps to be indoors, sure. But the moment when I hit the reflex volley there, that was something crazy.

"I remember Bogota, when I played an exo in Colombia, when I walked on court, I was scared. So this reminded me of this. Those were maybe my two loudest moments, and one I had today. So I'm very happy."

The Swiss Maestro famously conducted crowd response in Bogotá, Colombia during his exhibition against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Federer credited the Laver Cup crowd with inspiring intensity in players.

"I didn't worry too much about the quality of tennis on the court, because I think if you put a top player in front of 20,000 people, you're not going to be just playing a hit-and-giggle and clowning around," Federer said. "You're going to play your best tennis."
