Former French Open champion and World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic has elected to shut down her 2016 tennis season in order to rehabilitate several nagging injuries.
On Twitter she wrote that she plans to have surgery on a toe injury as well as doing extensive rehabilitation on a wrist injury. The Serb, who finishes 15-16 on the season, did not reach past the third round at any majors this year. Things were better on a personal note for Ivanovic, who married German footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger in July.
