"I'm looking forward to getting back onto the match court in Wuhan," Sharapova said. "I have been working hard to get myself ready to compete again, and I can't wait to get back out there. I really enjoyed my visit to Wuhan last year."
In her lone Wuhan appearance last year, Sharapova lost to qualifier Timea Bacsinszky in the round of 16.
The third-ranked Russian's entry gives Wuhan 18 of the world's top 19 ranked players. Sharapova reached the semifinals of better in three of the last four tournaments she's contested.
The five-time Grand Slam champion will face fellow Nike endorser Madison Keys in a December 12th exhibition at UCLA.
