21-year-old Aliaksandra Sasnovich upset third-seeded American Sloane Stephens in straight sets to reach her first career semifinal at the Korea Open in Seoul.
Sasnovich had only won three times previously on tour prior to this week. In Seoul, after qualifying, she’s reeled off three consecutive wins including her first Top-50 win today, and will face second-seeded Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the semifinals. The Belarussian defeated Schmiedlova for her first career Tour-level win at last year’s US Open.
Schmeidlova has won 18 of 21 matches including the Bucharest title since Wimbledon. She defeated 5th-seeded Mona Barthel in three sets on Friday.
The other semifinal in Seoul will feature top-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu and Alison Van Uytvanck. Both are into their second semifinal of 2015.
