Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic reached a career-high ranking of No. 5 in the world on Monday, but she has not had a chance to celebrate. This year’s French Open runner-up has been hospitalized with a bacteria infection, as she reported Tuesday on her Instagram feed.
No word on when Safarova, who has also won two doubles majors titles and is in the running to qualify for Singapore in singles and doubles (she has already qualified for doubles, with Bethanie Mattek-Sands), will be back.
