Eugenie Bouchard’s revival is in jeopardy. According to the USTA, the Canadian suffered a head injury on Friday in the locker room after winning her mixed doubles match with Nick Kyrgios. At this point, it’s unclear whether or not Bouchard’s injury will put an end to her singles run. She is due to face Roberta Vinci in the fourth round on Monday in New York. Here is the statement that the USTA released on Saturday:
Eugenie Bouchard is withdrawing from both the women’s doubles and mixed doubles competition at the 2015 US Open. Following the competition yesterday evening, Ms. Bouchard slipped and fell in the locker room and sustained a head injury. The severity of the injury was and continues to be assessed by the on-site medical personnel at the US Open. The medical staff has recommended that Ms. Bouchard withdraw from today’s competitions, and Ms. Bouchard is following that advice. No determination about competing in the singles competition has been made at this time. Ms. Bouchard will continue with medical evaluation and treatment for the remainder of the day. An update on her condition will be provided later today.
Bouchard was partnering with Elina Vesnina, who is a defending champion on the double side. Vesnina partnered with Ekaterina Makarova to win the title last season. In mixed doubles, Bouchard was partnering with Nick Kyrgios. The pair defeated Elina Svitolina and Artem Sitak to reach the second round on Friday. They were due to face Leander Paes and Martina Hingis in round two.
The Canadian appears to be in good spirits as she released this tweet at approximately 1 PM New York time on Saturday, before the news was released.
