“Honestly, I have no regrets as a professional player,” Li Na said. “Especially in the last few years I felt that I fulfilled all my dreams and goals. Looking back on my full tennis career, I'm very satisfied. So even though it's not a smooth career, all the dreams and goals have been achieved due to hard work, so I feel proud of myself.”
Li returned to her hometown to help open a new 15,000 seat center court at the WTA event.
Since retiring, Li gave birth to her daughter Alisa in June. Though she now enjoys a new life with her family, Li did say she missed one part of being on tour.
“Honestly, I miss the fight. This is the only thing I miss the court. Tennis with me 20 years, I cannot miss that."
Li still maintains a very busy schedule but still takes time to keep up with tennis and feels the depth in the women's game is growing.
“Tennis is different at different stages,” Li said. “Now the strength of players is more balanced. Every player will have their opportunities. I think Serena Williams is still the strongest player (but) for the other players, especially the post 1990s generation, they have more chances.”
Li Na won two major singles titles at the Australian Open and French Open along with reaching a career high of No. 2 in the world.
