Li Na Plays Tour Guide For Hingis

Li Na is not only an ambassador for Wuhan, now she's a tour guide.

The two-time Grand Slam champion gave Hall of Famer Martina Hingis a guided tour of her hometown, including a visit to the city's Yellow Crane Tower and a brief rally on a portable court.

“It’s pretty cool. She is the hometown hero,” said Hingis, who joins partner Sania Mirza as the top-seeded team in the Wuhan doubles draw. “Li Na said it’s only the second time she has been up here but to come with someone who grew up here and made it’ its definitely different, and I learned some history about the Yellow Crane Tower and about Wuhan.”

Asked if the reception she received arriving back home in Switzerland after sweeping doubles and mixed doubles crowns at Wimbledon and the US Open this year reminded her of the welcome Li Na enjoys at home in Wuhan, Hingis replied: “not quite."

"I got a welcome at the airport but I think China has a bit of a bigger population," Hingis said. "For Li Na to come from Wuhan and make it so big in a global sport has given hope for so many people here.”
