Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard has pulled out of next week's Toray Pan Pacific Open as a result of the concussion she suffered at the U.S. Open earlier this month.
"I'm really disappointed to withdraw from The Toray Pan Pacific Open, but I haven't sufficiently recovered from the concussion I sustained while competing at the U.S. Open," the World No. 26 said in a statement on WTATennis.com. "My fans in Japan are very special to me. I love playing there and I can't wait to go back next year."
A rejuvenated Bouchard, who spent time working with 8-time major champion Jimmy Connors in New York, won three matches in a row at the US Open to reach the round of 16, then sustained a concussion in a locker room fall that forced her to pull out of mixed doubles, doubles and singles in New York.
She is next scheduled to play the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, which begins on September 27. Bouchard was the runner-up at that event last year, losing to Petra Kvitova in the final. As the sixth seed she defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals.
