Denis Shapovalov twice served for the match today before bowing to Roberto Carballes Baena in a gut-wrenching five-hour Roland Garros defeat.

The ninth-seeded Canadian served for the third round at both 5-4 and 6-5 but could not close as the 101st-ranked Spaniard won the final three games to advance 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 8-6.

Afterward, Shapovalov issued some parting shots to both the Roland Garros bubble and tournament scheduling.

Upset he was scheduled to play his doubles match with partner Rohan Bopanna after his five-hour singles loss, Shapovalov unloaded on the tournament's "trash scheduling."

"Honestly I think they're not doing a good job," Shapovalov said. "There's really no bubble, especially in the second hotel, I heard. Scheduling is absolutely awful. I mean, after a five-hour match I have to play doubles now. It's just like, it's just complete trash scheduling.

"It's disappointing. I mean you're in a Grand Slam and I don't want to sound spoiled, you know, but you expect at least some help from the tournament to help you compete. I mean, how am I supposed to come out and play doubles now after a five-hour match?"

Shapovalov's comments proved prophetic as he and Bopanna lost to former Wimbledon champions Jack Sock and Vasek Pospisil in striaght sets.

The US Open quarterfinalist claims the tournament could have scheduled better though the tournament did schedule Hamurg champion Andrey Rublev and finalist Stefan Tsitsipas for the latest matches in both their first and second-rounders after the pair played the final in Germany on Sunday.

Shapovalov said the US Open bubble was safer than Roland Garros where players are required to stay at one of two tournament hotels, which are also used by the public. In New York, most players stayed in a hotel on Long Island that was not open to the public.

"It's a first round as well, they could have scheduled it way better, way easier," Shapovalov said. "I mean it's not acceptable. And the bubble as well. I mean, it's just, there is no bubble, you know. You can leave the hotel, you can go to the city, there's no problem, there's nobody stopping you, so it's, New York was done way better."
