Dimitrov On State of Sharapova Relationship

Grigor Dimitrov crashed a Maria Sharapova interview in January.

The retired Sharapova popped up in Dimitrov's Roland Garros presser today—when a journalist asked about the state of their relationship.

Dimitrov said the former flames are friends and remain in touch.

"You can still be jealous," Dimitrov joked when his inquisitor noted he was "jealous" over his relationship with his ex-girlfriend. "No, no, she's good. We have always kept a good friendship, good relationship. I mean, I hope you follow her on Instagram. Maybe like this you know what she do."

Tennis' glamour couple began dating in 2012, and were reportedly engaged at one point, before calling it quits as a couple back in 2015.

Sharapova announced her official retirement from pro tennis in February due to chronic injuries, concluding a career that saw her capture five Grand Slam crowns, complete the career Grand Slam, rise to world No. 1 and enjoy a record run as the world's highest-paid female athlete for 11 years.

The 18th-seeded Dimitrov, who has reached the Roland Garros third round without dropping a set, says his former squeeze is "in a good place."

"I'm not worried about her. I think she's in a good place I think in her life," Dimitrov said. "She's also the type of person that when you make such a, you know, such a decision and transition, you know it's for the right and for the good. I don't know. I wish I could tell you more."

In her memoir Unstoppable: My Life So Far, Sharapova wrote about the relationship, and Dimitrov, in positive terms.

When a teary-eyed Dimitrov showed a photo of his girlfriend sitting next to his mother watching him play the 2015 Wimbledon semifinals and said it meant the world to him, Sharapova realized she could not be the girlfriend he needed, concluding “you can have the right thing, but it might come at the wrong time.”
