Second Serve

After his second comeback win in two days, Stefanos Tsitsipas is looking to take another shot at Roger Federer in the Swiss Indoors semifinals on Saturday.

The Greek, who defeated Filip Kraijinovic 3-6 6-4 6-4 on Friday to improve to 48-22 on the season, will face Federer for the third time in 2019.

He knows he won’t be the crowd favorite at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel.

“I know now it’s different,” he said on Friday. “He’s playing in his hometown so obviously all the support will be with him but I don’t have to care about that, I just have to concentrate on my game and not think too much of what’s happening around me. It’s going to be one of the most difficult matches that I’ve faced. Concentration, calm and one point at a time.

Tsitsipas spent time hitting with Federer before the tournament began and told reporters that he appreciated the opportunity to spend some time with his Laver Cup Team Europe teammate.

“We were actually discussing some players,” he said of his time spent with the 20-time major champion. “Having a discussion on how certain players play or do what they do on the court. It was quite interesting from his point of view. How he sees tennis and how he understands it in a different perspective than other players.”

“I think there’s plenty to learn from him,” Tsitsipas added. “I know he might be a rival of mine but it’s nice to have chats like that and conversations and to relax a little bit before the tournament starts.”
