Kei Nishikori’s 2019 season has come to an end. The World No.8 announced that he will undergo elbow surgery and miss out on the rest of the season’s events.
“Since the French Open, Kei has been struggling with irritation in his right elbow. He has tried to heal this with rest (missed Halle, Washington, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Vienna this year already due to this) but time has proven that rest and rehab was not enough,” his agent Olivier van Lindonk said in a statement. “Tomorrow, Kei will undergo a small procedure removing two small bone spurs in his right elbow. It is the goal for Kei to be able to start his off-season training in the beginning of December.”
Nishikori produced a record of 29-14 in 2019, and won his 12th ATP title at Brisbane. He reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon and earned his 400th career win at Wimbledon.
He is expected to begin his off-season training in the beginning of December.
