Kei Nishikori is a popular tennis player anywhere he goes, but fans in Tokyo are absolutely nuts for the two-time Rakuten Japan Open champion. There were reportedly 9,000 fans in attendance on Sunday in Tokyo as the World No. 5 played practice sets with various ATP players.

The fans weren’t just there for Nishikori. The 10th edition of “ATP Sunday,” an event that kicks off with a kid’s tennis clinic on centre court before allowing fans to stick around for top player’s practice sessions, was a wild success. Over 200 children from Northern Japan were invited to attend the clinic and stick around to see their favorite stars practice.

Two-time champion Nishikori, who owns a 17-6 lifetime record at Tokyo and became the first Japanese man to win in Tokyo in 40 years in 2012, is clearly the hottest tennis ticket in Japan—even if it’s just for practice.

Nishikori will open his bid for a third title in Tokyo when he faces Nicolas Almagro on Monday.
