Watch: Gentlemen’s Fury is Twist on Tennis
Tennis frustrations boil to banging levels in a new movie out this month.
The comedy, Gentlemen's Fury, puts a Fight Club twist on tennis.
Watch:
Thiem's Stick Save
The film explores the premise that tennis is actually "a contact sport that doesn't allow contact."
The film's tagline "It takes balls to play" refers to the mayhem main character Aaron Faust, a former ATP player suspended for brawling, encounters in an underground tennis league.
Starring Ben Sharples (Flight 7500), Jake Head (Ted) and Audrey Ellis Fox (Law & Order: SVU), producers describe Gentlemen’s Fury as "a cross between Fight Club and Dodgeball that makes a raucous commentary on the plight of the male tennis player, as well as tennis itself."
Sharples, who also wrote, produced, directed and edited the movie with his wife Marissa, played collegiately at UC Berkeley and has confronted the game's frustrations.
"Tennis can be a maddening individual sport, and it’s also a sport that doesn’t get the love it deserves here, so a movie about a player whose temper lands him in a violent tennis cult seemed inevitable," Sharples said.
Gentlemen’s Fury will be
released on Vimeo On Demand
on May 23rd—the day after Roland Garros begins.
