Tennis can be a cruel mistress, and anybody who has ever picked up a racquet and stepped on a court knows that one teensy weensy lapse in concentration can leave you feeling sillier than Charlie Brown the moment after Lucy pulls the football away.
But don’t worry all you weekend warriors. Even the rising forces of men’s tennis have moments of utter confusion on court. Just check out this botched smash by Alexander Zverev during his first-round match at the Mutua Madrid Open. Three words: Blame. The. Lights!!!!
No matter. Zverev went on to claim a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Fernando Verdasco to book his spot in the second round at Madrid. The 20-year-old German is coming off his second title of the season at Munich and he’ll face No.7-seeded Marin Cilic in the second round.
