Novak Djokovic is thrilled to have Andre Agassi by his side in Paris. After thei two conducted their first two practices on court on Thursday in Paris, Djokovic told reporters that he’s very fired up and ready to face the challenge of defending his Roland Garros title with Agassi as his coach.

“It feels exciting,” he said. “It feels right at this moment because I was in the last five, six months struggling a little bit on the court and trying to really find myself and rediscover what kind of approach is the right one.”

Djokovic, who is bidding for his 13th major title in Paris, can pass Jimmy Connors on the all-time major win list by reaching the semifinals. The Serb has a 229-37 lifetime record at the majors.

“Right now I feel much better on the court, I played a great week in Rome,” Djokovic said. “I was talking with Andre for a couple weeks during Madrid and Rome on the phone, kind of preparing for matches, analyzing matches and that allowed both of us to get to know each other and for him especially for him to get closer to my thinking and my mindset about tennis and about life in general.”

Djokovic says that he is inspired by Agassi’s presence and that the two have developed a rapport rather quickly.

“Yesterday was obviously the first day and then we had two practice sessions and then we had a very long conversation in the evening, and even though it was the first day it felt like we have known each other for a very long time,” he said. “We clicked and connected very fast. He is someone that inspires me a lot and that is one of the things I felt like I needed. A new inspiration, someone that knows exactly what I’m going through, on the court, off the court he has been through these transitions, he has been in my shoes before.”
