Cyber support helped inspire Genie Bouchard for her rousing three-set victory over Maria Sharapova in yesterday's highly-hyped Madrid match that exceeded expectations.
Afterward, Bouchard revealed some colleagues on the WTA Tour texted her support and encouragement for the grudge match with the former No. 1 Bouchard branded "a cheater."

Simona Halep wasn’t one of them.
The reigning Madrid champion said there’s a simple reason she didn’t text support to Bouchard: They don’t speak to each other.
“I didn't wish good luck to Bouchard because we don't speak, actually,” Halep told the media in Madrid after her comeback win over Roberta Vinci. “She's different, I can say. I cannot judge her for being this. I cannot admire her for being this. I have nothing to say about her person.”
The third-seeded Romanian’s blunt assessment of Bouchard may well stem from the fact the Canadian famously blew off the traditional handshake with Alexandra Dulgheru, Halep’s Romanian Fed Cup teammate, before Dulgheru answered beating Bouchard and mocking her with a hand-fake in their 2015 Fed Cup match in Montreal.
Bouchard beat Halep in the 2014 Wimbledon semifinals before bowing to Petra Kvitova in the final.
Halep, who fell to Sharapova in a spirited 2014 Roland Garros final in which Sharapova took an extended and controversial bathroom break at the end of the second set, wasn’t exactly effusive about the 30-year-old Russian's comeback either.
“And about Maria Sharapova, she's back,” Halep said. “I'm not thinking that much, because many players are difficult in this level of tennis, the highest level of tennis. For me it's the same if Maria is here, if Maria is not here. I don't feel extra motivated. I didn't meet her yet. But it's the same for me.”
