Steffi Graf is the reason husband Andre Agassi agreed to coach Novak Djokovic.
The 1999 Roland Garros champion said he initially declined Djokovic's offer to serve as coach—until his Hall of Fame wife urged Agassi to give coaching a shot.
Gilbert: Djokovic Can Assert Game With Coach Agassi
"Novak called me about three weeks ago and I said no at the start," Agassi told French television program Tout le Sport in comments published by AFP. "But my wife said 'you should go, you will love it'. We had organized a family trip during Roland Garros anyway which was planned for a long time.
"So I hope to see one or two of Novak's matches and try to bring to him what I can because even a small remark can do a lot."
The eight-time Grand Slam champion said he's convinced Djokovic will improve.
"What I know, with certainty, is that he can be even better than yesterday," Agassi said. "I think he can only improve, because he understands how strong he is."
The reigning Roland Garros champion practiced with Agassi at Roland Garros on Thursday. Agassi said their commitment is based on the French Open and he has no plans to serve as a full-time coach at the moment.
"The only agreement we have is for Paris, and given our discussions, it's not a full-time job for me," Agassi said.
