Murray Denies that On-Court Behavior Led to Split with Mauresmo

Andy Murray responded to an article published in L’equipe earlier this week, in which Amelie Mauresmo alluded to the fact that his on-court behavior played a role in the pair’s split, saying that it was not the truth.

“For sure, when we were working together, we discussed many things on the court,” Murray said according to the Guardian. “And there were times when – like with all of my coaches – they said, ‘You need to concentrate more on the match. Stop directing your frustration at the box and being distracted from what’s going on on the court.’ But to say that that’s why we stopped working together is untrue.”

Mauresmo’s comments led many to believe that there may have been more to the split than her desire to spend more time at home with her family. “Andy is complex,” she told L’Equipe. “On the court, he can be the opposite of what he is in life. It can be confusing. I was there to help. I had the feeling I could not get things done. I had the impression we got to the end of what could be done professionally. It was concluded that it would be difficult to continue.”

Murray had the following to say about that: “What was said at the time was that we literally are spending hardly any time together in a three-month period right before major events coming up. And she was not able to help me during that period. That’s what happened.”
