42-year-old former world No. 4 Jonas Bjorkman will begin working with Andy Murray’s team on a trial basis. Murray, who has expressed a desire to have a second coach to work in conjunction with Amelie Mauresmo, did not spend time at a tournament with Mauresmo during the gap between the Australian Open an Indian Wells.
"I feel like there are some things I need to continue to work on all the time,” Murray said in Glasgow over the weekend, according to the BBC. “When I don't have someone there with me it's a little bit harder to do that. For me, it's better to have someone around, so I'll try to make sure I do that for the clay-court season.”
Bjorkman, a two-time Grand Slam singles semifinalist, is also a nine-time major doubles winner. He will reportedly begin working with Murray sometime in the next month. “I'm super excited and I'm really looking forward to join Andy Murray and his team for a test week, which we both hope will lead to joining the team permanently!” he said on Instagram.
According to BBC journalist Kheredine Idessane, former world No. 1 and seven-time major winner Mats Wilander is among many who think this is a good fit.
