It’s official that Novak Djokovic will not play at the BNP Paribas Open and Miami Open this year. The 20-time Grand Slam champion took to social media to say that he had hoped that the CDC might change its regulations and therefore allow him to gain access into the U.S. without being vaccinated. But it has not happened.
"While I was automatically listed in the BNP Paribas Open and Miami Open draw I knew it would be unlikely I’d be able to travel,” Djokovic said. “The CDC has confirmed that regulations won’t be changing so I won't be able to play in the US. Good luck to those playing in these great tournaments.”
Grigor Dimitrov will take Novak Djokovic’s spot in the draw, and a lucky loser will replace Dimitrov.
