Norrie: "Legend" Murray's Most Impressive Quality

Andy Murray has been to the tennis mountain top.

The pure passion the former world No. 1 brings to his comeback climb is Murray's most inspiring achievement, compatriot Cameron Norrie said.

Serena: I'd Probably be in Jail for Zverev Tirade

Two-time Olympic gold-medal champion Murray will play for a milestone 700th career win when he faces Japan's Taro Daniel in his Indian Wells opener.

Meeting the media in Indian Wells, defending BNP Paribas Open champion Norrie said Murray's indomitable spirit and commitment to the cause after undergoing hip resurfacing is "more impressive than all those wins."

"Incredible, I think not only that for everything he’s been through and all the setbacks he’s had and he’s still waking up every day and going for it and leaving it on the table," Norrie said. "Obviously it must be tough for him to having played at a very high level previous in his career and winning a lot and then to not being where he wants to be. I’m sure he wants to be playing better than he is.

"And for me I think that stands out more, you know, his attitude and his love for the game and his passion for the game I think for me is more impressive than all those wins. Obviously that speaks for itself all the titles, all the wins, getting to No. 1, finishing to No. 1 for the year that’s sick. He’s a legend of the game. For me what is more outstanding is the attitude he has and brings on a day to day basis and the love for the game."

Wild card Murray, a long-time UNICEF UK ambassador, made a major humanitarian gesture this week announcing he will donate his prize money for the rest of the 2022 season to the children of Ukraine who have been impacted by Russia's invasion of the nation.

"Over 7.5 million children are at risk with the escalating conflict in Ukraine, so I'm working with UNICEF UK to help provide urgent medical supplies and early childhood development kids," Murray posted. "It’s vital education continues, so UNICEF is working to enable access to learning for displaced children, as well as supporting the rehabilitation of damaged schools, together with replacement equipment and furniture."

Norrie said Murray's pledge highlights his generosity and awareness of the world outside of the tennis bubble.

"He's a very generous guy as well; he’s pretty switched on," Norrie said. "Obviously he loves tennis, but also he’s pretty switched on to everything going on in the world.

"He’s got some decent cash in the bank as well so he can afford to do that, but still very generous for him and very cool to see."
