Nadal, who beat US Open champion Daniil Medvedev to capture a men's major record 21st Grand Slam title in Melbourne, will play for a record-extending 13th Barcelona Open championship.
Thirteen-time Roland Garros champion Nadal will be joined by 2021 Barcelona Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in the field.
“Having Rafa in Barcelona is very exciting for the tournament and the expectation will be high to know how far he can go,” tournament director David Ferrer said. “What Nadal is doing is something unique that will go down in history and it is very exciting to be able to witness it.
"Rafa is a legend in this sport, and we should enjoy it as long as we can."
