World No. 3 Karolina Pliskova, who plays 27th-seeded Yulia Putintseva for a place in the Miami Open round of 16, trails world No. 1 Angelique Kerber by about 1,900 points in the rankings. Karolina can shrink the gap a bit more with a deep run in Miami where she was a first-round casualty last year.
The Pliskova twins have been spending more time recently as 52nd-ranked Kristyna has made third-round runs the Australian Open and Indian Wells and is now playing some of the same tournaments as her right-handed, higher-ranked sister.
“It’s a plus to have a twin sister in the same tournaments,” Karolina told Michelle Kaufman of The Miami Herald. “Finally, she is better now, around 50, so we can play in the same tournaments...We were used to being together all the time, and that changed for a few years, but now we’re back together.
“I still think we have different stories. Definitely it’s good to have somebody who I can talk with about things. Not only about tennis, but also about tennis because most of our life is about tennis.”
The Pliskova sisters celebrated their 25th birthdays on Tuesday.
