Second Serve

Seeds fell like the raindrops that blanketed the grounds of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden during a rare rain delay on Friday, and 22nd-seeded Andrea Petkovic was one of nine seeds to be sent packing, losing a tight three-setter to Barbora Strycova.

The German took the loss hard, smashing her racquet after missing a forehand on match point. But she cooled off for a nice friendly handshake after the match before the vultures—er, fans—descended on the court to try and finagle some gear out of the players.

One young fun scored the ultimate prize. Watch as Strycova hands the kid a Wilson frame from out of her bag without saying a word. That’s a $200 racquet! Nice gesture of Strycova, but we’d have enjoyed it more if she denied the pushy kid and walked over to the crowd and gave it to somebody who was more polite.
