Second Serve

Timea Bacsinszky took a scary fall at the beginning of the second set of her third-round tilt with Eugenie Bouchard at the BNP Paribas Open on Monday, but the cagey Swiss was able to dust herself off and find her way to a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory.

Afterwards Bacsinszky said that she was inspired to rise again by the presence of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky at the match.

“With the Great One watching here, I think he knows how it feels to get hurt in a hockey match,” she said. “I felt like I fell right in front of him so I felt like it’s alright, I have to show I don’t feel the pain, but yeah, it was hurting.”

Bacsinszky will face Daria Kasatkina in the round of 16 on Tuesday. She was a quarterfinalist at Indian Wells last year.
