Bouchard Feels Her Game is Coming Together
Canada’s
Eugenie Bouchard
is feeling upbeat about her progress, even if she’s not producing eye-catching results on a weekly basis.
“I definitely feel I have made strides this year,” Bouchard said. “I have taken steps in the right direction. I feel better about my game. Whether the results come right away or not, I know I'm playing better and better.”
Bouchard has already outpaced her 2015 win total by three (she’s 15-6 this year and went 12-18 in 2015), and is winning at a much more consistent clip. It’s enough to get the 22-year-old believing that she’s on the right track.
“I still have to be positive,” she said after falling to Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland in the third round on Monday at Indian Wells. “It's a very long road back to the top, especially after being out a couple months from injuries. I mean, in all honesty, when I started the year I didn't expect to win a match till April. I had no idea what to expect. I'm doing better than I expected. Just gotta keep improving and keep going. I played a tough opponent today. No reason to be depressed.”
