Simona Halep has pulled out of next week’s Nature Valley International at Eastbourne due to Achilles tendon pain and inflammation. The Romanian, who won her first major title at Roland Garros, will enter Wimbledon without a grass-court tune-up for the second time in three season. She was a quarterfinalist at Eastbourne last year before reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
Halep owns a 25-13 lifetime record on grass and has reached at least the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in three of the last four season.
