McEnroe Shocked at Djokovic's Lack of Response against Thiem in Paris
While commentating for the BBC,
John McEnroe
couldn’t help but take a few shots at a discombobulated
Novak Djokovic
on Wednesday after the Serb fell to
Dominic Thiem
and won just eight points and made 12 unforced errors in the final set of his 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-0 loss to the Austrian.

“It looks right now as if Djokovic doesn’t want to be on the court,” McEnroe said on BBC. “This is tank city. I’m very surprised — especially with the way how it ended. That last set was really strange.”
Djokovic suffered a bagel at a major for the first time since 2005, and just the third time at a major in his career.
“I don’t remember seeing a time in the last six to eight years when Novak mailed it in. He basically gave up.” McEnroe said. “It looked in the third set like he just didn’t want to be out there, couldn’t compete anymore, and that’s shocking for a guy that’s won as much as he has and prides himself on competition.”
He added: "It just shows you everyone's human.”
Djokovic, who will drop out of the top two in next week's ATP rankings and could fall to No.4, says he plans to work through his issues and come back stronger.
“It’s a fact that I’m not playing close to my best and I know that,” said Djokovic. “I’m trying like everyone else to work on the game, to work on things. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. … I guess [I] have to go through it, try to learn your lessons and figure out the way how to get out of it stronger. It’s a big challenge but I’m up for it.”
