In a statement, Haas revealed he will undergo surgery on Tuesday in New York to deal with the ongoing issue in his right shoulder.
“The diagnosis was a real shock for me but a surgery can’t be avoided because the injury is very serious,” Haas said. ”I don’t want to retire from the tennis stage with an injury but would like to end my career on the court."
Haas, 36, has already had three operations on his right shoulder in 2002, 2003 and 2007.
Currently ranked No. 20 in the world, Haas last competed at Roland Garros where he retired in his first round match versus Jurgen Zopp.
Despite the prognosis, Haas remains optimistic he can return to tennis in 2015.
“I’m still totally convinced I've good matches and tournaments ahead of me as long as the shoulder operation proves to be successful and my body plays its part."
