Venus Williams’ will continue to inspire on the hard courts this summer. The 43-year-old American has been granted a wild card into the National Bank Open in Montreal.
Williams, who played four matches on the grass this summer, winning one and losing in the first round of Wimbledon to Elina Svitolina (6-4, 6-3), will make her 12th appearance at the event.
“We are excited and honoured to announce that for the first time since 2018 Venus (Williams) will be back in Montreal to play in front of our incredible fans,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director of the National Bank Open in Montreal in a statement. “Venus continues to inspire the tennis world with her relentless effort and determination to get back to the top of her game, and we are eager to witness her extraordinary talent on the IGA Stadium courts.”
Williams, a holder of seven Grand Slam singles titles and 49 career titles overall, will join another former World No.1 – Caroline Wozniacki – in the draw this year.
