Petra Kvitova, 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist, has been named the flag-bearer for the Czech Republic for the opening ceremony at the Tokyo Olympics. The 31-year-old two-time Wimbledon champ will march alongside NBA player Tomas Satoransky, of the Chicago Bulls.
Kvitova joins Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko, Paraguay's Veronica Cepede Royg and Chinese Tapei's Yen-Hsun Lu as tennis playing flag bearers in Tokyo.
"Honestly am still speechless after being told about this,” Kvitova tweeted on Thursday. “I will carry that flag with so much pride tomorrow.”
Satoransky also tweeted and tossed out some kind words to about the much-loved Kvitova.
“What a huge honor for me!!” he said on Twitter. “And specially going along with 2 time Wimbledon champion and bronze medalist Petra Kvitova.”
The opening ceremony begins on Friday evening in Tokyo, and the tennis portion of the Olympic Games begins on Saturday.
