Hurkacz on Facing Berrettini Bombs

Two days after Hubert Hurkacz dealt Roger Federer the worst Wimbledon loss of his career, the 14th seed was on the other side of history.

Hurkacz felt disarmed by Matteo Berrettini's power in the Wimbledon semifinals.

More: Berrettini is First Italian in Wimbledon Final

Berrettini blasted 60 winners and used an 11-game surge dismantling Hurkacz 6-3, 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-4 to burst into history as the first Italian—male or female—to reach the Wimbledon singles final.

Hurkacz can take pride from toppling world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev and eight-time Wimbledon winner Federer in succession, but conceded he felt powerless at times against Berrettini, who belted 22 aces and denied both break points he faced.

"I mean, Matteo played unbelievable match today," Hurkacz said. "Huge congrats to him. I mean, every single service game, he was serving bombs.

"I didn't have many chances, basically probably zero. So huge congrats for him that he kept, like, such a high level throughout the whole four sets.

"I mean, he played really well...I mean, if he continues to play like this, he has really big chance in the final."

While Berrettini will play for a maiden major title in Sunday's Wimbledon final, Hurkacz looks ahead to representing Poland in this month's Olympic Games.

"I'm super happy to be representing my country in the Olympics," Hurkacz said. "Looking forward to it. Obviously the crowds, the experience that I had here with this unbelievable people supporting, cheering for us, that's special for players."
