Juan Martin del Potro made a triumphant Davis Cup return to help give Argentina a quarterfinal edge.
Playing his first Davis Cup match in nearly four years and his first-ever Davis Cup doubles match, del Potro partnered Guido Pella to a 6-1, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, victory over Fabio Fognini and Paolo Lorenzi on the red clay of Pesaro, Italy today.

The three-hour, 50-minute victory lifts Argentina to a 2-1 lead over host Italy in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
Fognini was playing after scoring a 6-1, 6-1, 7-5 win over Juan Monaco to level for the Italians.
In tomorrow's opening reverse singles, Fognini will try to keep the home hope alive facing Federico Delbonis. If a fifth match is necessary, Andreas Seppi is scheduled to play Monaco.
The visitors also won doubles to take the lead on the red clay of Belgrade.
Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot staked Great Britain to a 2-1 lead over host Serbia, defeating Nenad Zimonjic and Filip Krajinovic, 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4.
