Novak Djokovic is a free man and ready to play the 2022 Australian Open and his biggest rival Rafael Nadal believes that justice has been done.
The Spaniard gave his take on his fellow 20-time major champion in an interview on Tuesday in Melbourne.
“Whether or not I agree with Djokovic on some things, justice has spoken and has said that he has the right to participate in the Australian Open and I think it is the fairest decision to do so, if it has been resolved that way. I wish him the best of luck,” Nadal told Spain’s Onda Cero.
Djokovic, who had his visa revoked upon arrival into Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, and spent five days in detention at the Park Hotel, has since been set free after winning his appeal in an Australian court on Monday.
He arrived Tuesday to Melbourne Park, the nine-time champion posing for a picture with his team to let the public know he is still keen on winning a tenth title in Melbourne.
Nadal referred to the events of the past five days as a circus, but he said that one thing is far from being a joke – that is the fact that the pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the globe. Nearly 5.5 million deaths have been reported worldwide since the pandemic began.
“All the debate that surrounds it is a circus, but one thing is clear: No matter how much debate is generated, there is one clear fact and it is that there have been millions of deaths in the world due to a virus. That is a reality,” he said.
