Jenson Brooksby will miss the 2022 Australian Open due to Covid-19. The 56th-ranked American was scheduled to fly to Melbourne this week but contracted Covid along with his coach.
“Unfortunately I have had to withdraw from the Australian Open,” Brooksby wrote on Instagram. “I was scheduled to fly out tomorrow but my coach and I tested positive this morning. It isn’t easy to miss a slam; there are many out there who have suffered worse so I can’t complain. I look forward to making my Aussie Open debut next year.”
Brooksby, who reached 2021 US Open round a 16 as 20-year-old WC, becoming youngest American to achieve that feat since Andy Roddick in 2002, rose from 307 to 56 in the ATP rankings last year. The 21-year-old even managed to take a set from Novak Djokovic when he got there.
The 21-year-old is 4-4 lifetime at the majors, he has yet to make his Wimbledon debut as well.
