Second Serve

Alexander Zverev and his perfect body are into the second round at the Australian Open.

The fourth-seeded German knocked off Aljaz Bedene 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 on Tuesday and afterwards told Jim Courier in a post-match interview that he’s feeling pretty good.

“My body is close to perfection right now,” Zverev said, as the crowd cheered.

In all seriousness, Zverev has been struggling with injuries ahead of the tournament and he told the crowd that his ankle still bothered him and that it was swollen.

“I had about 86 injuries coming into this tournament,” said Zverev, “so I’m happy that it’s good now and everything is coming together. My ankle is still a little bit sore and still a little bit swollen but everything looks pretty good and it’s going to get better with every day.”

Zverev will face either Jeremy Chardy or Ugo Humbert in the second round on Thursday. The German is playing in his 15th career Grand Slam and has yet to reach beyond the quarterfinals.

He has yet to reach past the third round at the Australian Open in three previous appearances.
