Stan Wawrinka battled back from a set down to defeat 21-year-old Briton Kyle Edmund, 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-4.

The three-time major champion had his hands full with the World No.45 but managed to edge out the youngster in two hours and 36 minutes, saving 11 of 13 break points and breaking Edmund four times on ten opportunities.

Wawrinka had a double-break lead in the decider but needed two opportunities to serve the match out.

Edmund falls to 0-7 vs. Top 10 players but Wawrinka was impressed with his foe nonetheless.

“It was a great battle today,” Wawrinka said. “He’s a great player, improving every year. He’s going to have a great year for sure.”

Wawrinka moves on to face Kei Nishikori in the semifinals. Nishikori rolled past 22-year-old wild card Jordan Thompson, 6-1, 6-1.
